Introduction to Desserts:

A dessert in the Western sense is served after the completion of a meal. Normally a dessert's texture is rich and decadent and sweet to the taste. Flour, sugar, milk and butter are often the most common base ingredients for desserts. Desserts often take the form of cakes, cookies or breads.

Sweets date back to ancient civilizations, where people enjoyed fruits and nuts coated with honey. So, how did the modern dessert come to be? According to Lovetoknow gourmet(Delp, 2006-2010), here are some dates that are important in the history of the desserts.

Year

1381

1400
Gingerbread was made by soaking bread crumbs in honey and spices
1600
Pralines were created by a table officer of French nobility
1700

1740

1800
Lemon meringue pie wasn't invented until the 19th century but meringue and lemon custards were common before then.

Desserts come in various colours and forms. It is often said that without the right set of desserts at the end of a meal, it is not likely for an individual to be able to enjoy the true taste of an elaborate meal.

In the following Wiki pages, I am going to discuss the cake, the cookie, the danish and the pie.
